New Strength Cycles for More Consistent Progression

MetCon Planner now makes Strength workouts more foundational and easier to progress. Choose Linear Progression, 5/3/1, Wave Loading, or Texas Method to give your primary lift a clearer plan.

Strength training works best when the basics are repeated long enough to improve—not replaced with a new complex movement every time you open your workout. MetCon Planner now gives Strength-focused athletes more structure for building and progressing foundational lifts.

Start with the lifts that matter

Strength-focused workouts now prioritize movements such as the back squat, deadlift, Romanian deadlift, bench press, overhead press, and barbell row. Olympic and complex movements can still appear, but they are treated as occasional choices rather than the default way to create variety.

Choose a progression style

When Strength is selected as your focus, you can choose a programming cycle that fits how you want to train:

  • Linear Progression: Use a repeatable 3×5 structure and add weight as your recent sessions allow.

  • 5/3/1: Move through a four-week wave of 5s, 3s, heavier singles, and a deload.

  • Wave Loading: Build from 5×5 to 5×3 and then 5×1 across a three-week wave.

  • Texas Method: Choose a Volume, Recovery, or Intensity day.

Use your training history

The generator can use recent completed workouts to avoid treating every session as a blank slate. When the same lift appears again, the program can use the previous working load as a reference instead of automatically substituting a more technical exercise.

How to use it

  1. Choose Strength as your workout focus.

  2. Select a strength cycle from the new cycle menu.

  3. Choose the current cycle week—or select the day type for Texas Method.

  4. Generate the workout and log your working sets after training.

Why this matters

A varied workout is not automatically a better workout. Consistent foundational lifts, sensible loading, and enough recovery give you a clearer way to see progress while still leaving room for conditioning and skill work.

When you are ready to train, use the random metcon generator to build a session around your equipment, schedule, and current focus.

Key takeaways

  • Strength workouts now put foundational lifts first.

  • Structured cycles make the intended sets, reps, and loading clearer.

  • Recent workout history can support progression instead of forcing novelty.

  • Olympic and complex movements remain available when they serve a clear purpose.
